Aaron Parks came up through the Terence Blanchard band as a teenager before landing on Blue Note with his 2008 debut *Invisible Cinema*, establishing himself early as a voice rooted equally in post-bop tradition and open, searching improvisation. Billy Hart's presence here is worth noting on its own terms; the drummer's career stretches back to sessions with Wes Montgomery and Herbie Hancock, and his intuitive sense of space has long made him an ideal collaborator for pianists navigating that same tension between structure and spontaneity.
Pianist and composer Aaron Parks expands his trio with bassist Ben Street and drummer Billy Hart into a quartet with the addition of tenor saxophonist Ben Solomon on his luminous third Blue Note album, By All Means. Although Parks has made his band Little Big the center of his recorded output in recent years, he never stopped writing music that belonged to a different harmonic universe influenced by the likes of Wayne Shorter, Horace Silver, Duke Ellington, Joe Henderson, and others.
