Speed was never the point, even when Di Meola was burning through runs that left other guitarists slack-jawed. Released in 1977, Casino followed Elegant Gypsy with a sharper focus on texture and composition, drawing from flamenco, jazz, and Latin traditions that Di Meola had been absorbing since his days cutting his teeth alongside Chick Corea in Return to Forever.

Master of the strings, Al di Meola, turned his back on over-ambitious manual dexterity as he did on ""Elegant Gypsy"" to concentrate more on musical substance, demonstrates his intensive work with the material in the follow-up album ""Casino"".
