Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell's chemistry was already fully formed on this 1990 debut, blending Cantrell's down-tuned, sludgy guitar work with Staley's haunting vocal harmonies in ways that felt genuinely new. Facelift arrived at the front edge of Seattle's explosion into the mainstream, though its heaviness owed as much to metal as to anything that would later get labeled grunge. "Man in the Box" broke the band wide open on MTV, but deeper cuts reward repeated listens.
Facelift is the debut studio album by the American rock band Alice in Chains. The album was originally released on August 21, 1990.
