Product Details

Recorded in just one week during a break from touring in late 1993, Jar of Flies captured Alice in Chains in an unexpectedly acoustic and introspective mode, a stark contrast to the band's heavier catalog. The muted fingerpicking, jazzy undertones, and Layne Staley's raw vocal performances on tracks like "Nutshell" and "No Excuses" revealed a fragility that resonated deeply with a generation navigating the darker edges of the early '90s.

Jar of Flies is the second studio EP by the American rock band Alice in Chains, released on January 25, 1994, through Columbia Records. It is the first EP in music history to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 Chart with the first week sales exceeding 141, 000 copies in the United States. The EP was well received by critics and has since been certified triple-platinum by the RIAA and has gone on to sell 4 million copies worldwide, making Jar of Flies one of the band's most successful releases.
