Anton Barbeau – Come Home To Me (CD)
Product Details
Sacramento's Anton Barbeau has long been a cult figure in the world of brainy, melodic psychedelia, his vast catalog earning devoted followers on both sides of the Atlantic, particularly in the UK. The XTC connection here runs deep, with Moulding and Gregory bringing genuine lineage to songs that already carry that tradition's love of pop architecture and harmonic surprise.
After four decades and more than 40 albums, California psychedelic-pop songwriter Anton Barbeau returns with Come Home To Me, a 14-song album that sets aside the conceptual weight of 2025's Dark Mystery Temple trilogy for the simple pleasure of pop music in motion. Recorded mainly at Barbeau's Auburn home studio, it darts from clipped new wave and jazzy piano balladry to Cocteau Twins-tinted psychedelia and deep P-Funk. Colin Moulding and Dave Gregory of XTC appear alongside Andy Metcalfe, Donald Ross Skinner and Terry Edwards. ""World Calls Love"" grew from a decades-old cassette fragment found while clearing Barbeau's childhood Sacramento house, while ""All Thru The Night"" was written during his final days there. An old tape, a last cup of tea and fourteen fresh reasons to come home.
