Before Atlantic Records and the classic soul recordings that would define her legacy, Aretha Franklin walked into Columbia Studios as a teenage prodigy with a voice that already demanded attention. Produced by John Hammond, the man who also signed Billie Holiday and Bob Dylan, this 1961 debut captured her roots in gospel and jazz before the world fully understood what it had on its hands.
Aretha's first album for Columbia originally released in 1961. The album showcases a young Aretha on Jazz and Pop standards. Pianist Ray Bryant and his combo is featured along with arrangements by J. Leslie McFarland.
