Product Details

Unearthed from rehearsal tapes and studio demos that sat quietly in private hands for five decades, this is exactly the kind of discovery that reminds you how deep the early '70s British prog underground ran. As You Like It never released a record in their time, but the Hammond-driven, mellotron-laced sound captured here puts them in direct conversation with the Canterbury scene and the pastoral prog tradition that defined that era.

Seelie Court - the world's premier label for rare and previously unreleased archive recordings of underground folk, rock, proto-metal, and psychedelic music presents As You Like. A British progressive rock band formed in late 1972 by former members of Tales of Justine and The Syndicate. The lineup featured John Ellis on keyboards, Martin Paine on guitar and keyboards, Paul King on drums, and Paul Vincent Myerson on bass. Emerging from London's early '70s music scene, the band rehearsed in a converted farm shed and self-produced demos at RG Jones and Chalk Farm Studios. Their earliest surviving recordings, made between 1973 and 1975, showcase complex, pastoral progressive rock led by Hammond organ and mellotron, reflecting influences from Gentle Giant, Yes, Genesis, Caravan, Fantasy, Spring, and England (Garden Shed).
