Billy Bragg & Wilco – Mermaid Avenue (180g 2-LP Vinyl)
Billy Bragg & Wilco Vinyl Records
Product Details
Woody Guthrie left behind thousands of unset lyrics when he died in 1967, and for decades they sat in the Guthrie archives waiting for the right collaborators. The pairing of Billy Bragg's folk-activist roots with Wilco's then-nascent alt-country ambition turned out to be an inspired match for the material, capturing a scrappy, lived-in warmth that honors Guthrie's plainspoken humanity without feeling like a museum piece.
Originally released in 1998, Billy Bragg and Wilco’s Mermaid Avenue launched the acclaimed series that set previously unheard Woody Guthrie lyrics to new music. This 2-LP 180-gram vinyl pressing features “California Stars,” “Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key,” “Birds and Ships” and more, with Natalie Merchant guesting on two tracks. The GRAMMY®-nominated 15-track album is regarded as a landmark of modern Americana.
