Recorded while Joel was riding the momentum of *The Stranger*, 52nd Street leaned harder into jazz influences, with Freddie Hubbard's trumpet lending genuine credibility to "Zanzibar" and the horn arrangements throughout. It won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1980, and was notably the first commercial album released on CD in Japan when Sony launched the format that same year.
