Detroit has always had a deeper jazz and funk lineage than it gets credit for, and Dave McMurray has been one of its most versatile keepers, moving between the avant-pop world of Was (Not Was) and a serious career as a session and bandleader with roots in that city's rich tradition. Black Light Collectie brings that community together on wax, a document of musicians who came up breathing the same air as the greats they're honoring.

Black Light Collective is Dave McMurray - producer and saxophonist and original member of Was (not Was) and his hand picked band of Detroit natives. Rayse Biggs, Luis Resto, Larry Fratangelo (Parliament/Funkadelic), Kenneth Gill, Allen Dennard, and more come together with a solid tribute to theJazz of the 60s and 70s, when music had a groove and a message: Musicians had something to say and weren't afraid to say it.
