Tony Martin's arrival in Black Sabbath often gets overshadowed by the Ozzy and Dio eras, but his tenure gave the band a legitimate second wind at a moment when many had written them off. Recorded during a period of real instability, the album's sessions famously saw Ray Gillen track most of the vocals before Martin stepped in to finish the job, a behind-the-scenes upheaval that makes the polished final product all the more remarkable.
