Recorded without founding members Ozzy Osbourne, Terry "Geezer" Butler, or Bill Ward, *Headless Cross* found Tony Iommi anchoring a lineup built around vocalist Tony Martin and drummer Cozy Powell, whose thunderous playing gave the album a different kind of weight than the classic era. Many longtime fans consider it one of the strongest post-Ozzy Sabbath records, a reminder that Iommi's riff-craft remained undimmed regardless of who surrounded him.
