Recorded in New Orleans with Daniel Lanois bringing an atmospheric, swampy texture to Dylan's arrangements, *Oh Mercy* arrived at a moment when many had written Dylan off, only to find him as sharply observant as ever. The sessions also yielded several notable outtakes, including "Series of Dreams" and "Dignity," which Dylan sat on for years before releasing them elsewhere.
