Product Details

Walter "Brownie" McGhee learned his craft coming up through the Piedmont blues tradition, but by the time he settled in New York in the 1940s he had become a connective thread between the rural South and the urban folk revival. His partnership with Sonny Terry lasted decades and introduced generations of listeners to acoustic blues who might never have sought it out on their own.

Brownie’s Blues was originally recorded in 1960 and released in 1962 on Presitge’s Bluesville Records. Renowned harmonica player and longtime collaborator, Sonny Terry, compliments McGhee’s guitar mastery on this album. Combining his jump-blues roots with his signature folk-blues sound, McGhee makes his virtuosity sound easy. This album has been (AAA) remastered from the original tapes, pressed on 180-gram vinyl at QRP in partnership with Acoustic Sounds and is housed in a replica tip-on jacket.
