Product Details

Austin's most confrontational psychedelic provocateurs were never easy to pin down, and *Piouhgd* captures them at their most productively unhinged, balancing genuine pop instincts against the noise-damaged chaos that made their live shows near-legendary. Gibby Haynes and Paul Leary had spent years terrorizing clubs with smoke machines and dual drummers; by 1991, some of that anarchic energy was finding its way into something almost accessible, without losing its teeth.

The 5th studio album by Texas-bred psych stalwarts: it's pronounced "P.O.'ed." Originally released in 1991, it finds them mid transition - morphing from underground freakshow to unlikely MTV mainstays. Face-melting guitars abound, as do references to comedian Gary Shandling. A cover of Donovan's "Hurdy Gurdy Man" is skewed and tuneful.
