Charles Mingus – Cumbia & Jazz Fusion (CD)

Recorded in 1976 and released on Atlantic in 1977, this late-period Mingus session found the bassist and composer pushing outward toward Latin American rhythms at a time when most of his contemporaries were looking inward. The title suite stretches across nearly an entire side, a reminder that Mingus always worked on an orchestral scale even when the recording light was on.
