Parker's Kansas City years were foundational, the period when a teenage prodigy was absorbing blues, swing, and the competitive cutting-session culture of 18th and Vine before taking that vocabulary to New York and reinventing jazz entirely. Hearing him in informal settings, away from the studio pressure of his landmark Savoy and Dial sessions, reveals just how deeply rooted his revolutionary language was in the Missouri soil where it first grew.

Charlie Parker - "Bird In Kansas City" / This new set of rare Charlie Parker recordings dating from between 1941-1951, most of them never having been heard before and some never even having been known to exist, chronicle Bird's evolution from a blossoming soloist with the Jay McShann Band into a brilliant improviser who dominated the jazz landscape for decades to come.
