The first Black superstar in country music, Charley Pride broke through Nashville's barriers in the late 1960s and went on to score over two dozen number-one hits, a run matched by few artists in any genre. His warm baritone carried a naturalness that made the emotional core of classic country feel effortless, earning him the CMA Entertainer of the Year award in 1971 and induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000.
Charley Pride is known for his careers in baseball and music, and this compilation shows that he does indeed know how to play. The Country music pioneer croons on standouts "Just Between You and Me" and "Kiss an Angel Good Mornin'."
