Baker's voice carried the same ache in 1985 that it did three decades earlier, worn down by time but no less haunting. Recorded in the twilight of his life, just three years before his death in Amsterdam, this session with his longtime European collaborators captures a musician who had traded youthful melancholy for something harder and more earned.
American trumpeter Chet Baker was a major innovator in cool jazz, earning him the nickname 'the prince of cool'. He earned much attention and praise through the Fifties, particularly for albums featuring his vocals. This included his 1954 album Chet Baker Sings, and its follow-up Chet Baker Sings Again in 1985. The latter he released on the Dutch jazz label Timeless Records. He recorded the album with bassist Ricardo Del Fra, drummer John Engels and pianist Michel Graillier. Chet Baker Sings Again is available as a limited edition on gold colored vinyl and affixed on the protective sleeve is the 50th Anniversary Timeless Jazz sticker.
