Scooter Ward built Cold's catalog on a kind of open-wound honesty that most of his post-grunge peers kept at arm's length, and "Year of the Spider" is where that instinct found its widest audience. Recorded during a turbulent stretch for the band, the album's commercial breakthrough never came at the expense of the rawness that made Cold's fanbase so fiercely loyal in the first place.
The third time was the charm for Cold, as album #3 went to #3 on the charts. Vocalist Scooter Ward was always (and still is) the band's biggest asset, so Year of the Spider's move in a more melodic direction worked both artistically and commercially, even landing them a hit single (""Stupid Girl,"" co-written with Weezer's Rivers Cuomo). But take a closer listen, and the emotional depth and vulnerability of Ward's lyrics really do set Cold apart from it's grunge and nu-metal contemporaries. And who doesn't relate to a song called ""Kill the Music Industry?!"" We've had this 2003 smash remastered for vinyl, and pressed it in clear with red and black swirl vinyl nestled inside a gatefold jacket. Early Aught-ies alternative rock at it's finest!
