London's Cymande occupied a singular space in the early 1970s, blending Caribbean rhythms, funk, and jazz into something that defied easy categorization at a time when American radio barely knew what to do with it. Their records became foundational samples for hip-hop producers decades later, with everyone from De La Soul to the Fugees digging into their catalog, giving an entirely new generation its entry point into the band's legacy.
This is Partisan Records' black vinyl repress of Cymande's 1974 classic Second Time Round. This album features the stunning singles "Crayshaw,"Fug" & "Genvieve". Their self-titled debut was the first UK soul album to land on the Billboard Top 200 charts, and Second Time Round placed them back on the US charts. And in another first while touring on this album they became the first British band to ever headline the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem.
