Released in 1973 between the glam peak of Aladdin Sane and the theatrical reinvention of Diamond Dogs, Pinups found Bowie paying tribute to the mid-60s London scene that shaped him, covering favorites by The Who, The Kinks, Pink Floyd, and others he'd watched from the stages and clubs of his formative years. It's a snapshot of an artist at the height of his powers deliberately looking backward, filtering British Invasion DNA through the Spiders from Mars.
