Released in 1972, Ziggy Stardust arrived at a moment when glam rock was rewriting the rules of identity and performance, and Bowie's collaboration with guitarist Mick Ronson gave the record a raw, muscular backbone that kept the theatrics grounded in real rock and roll. Songs like "Suffragette City" and "Starman" became generational touchstones, proving that artifice and authenticity could coexist in the same three-minute song.

The fifth studio album by the English musician. Described as a rock opera and also a loose concept album, the album is about Bowie's titular alter ego Ziggy Stardust, a fictional androgynous bisexual rock star who acts as a messenger for extraterrestrial beings.
