The Pasadena Rose Bowl show that closed the Music for the Masses Tour drew over 65,000 fans, a staggering number for a band that had built its following largely through word of mouth and relentless touring rather than mainstream radio. Directed by D.A. Pennebaker, the accompanying film captured not just the spectacle but the devotion of the crowd, cementing Depeche Mode's status as one of the great live acts of their era.

'101' is a live album and documentary by Depeche Mode released in 1989 chronicling the final leg of the band's 1987/1988 Music for the Masses Tour. A live album and a greatest hits album all in one, '101' proved that the band were just as capable of performing on stage as they were working in a studio.  Primarily covering tracks from Music For The Masses, the album also includes performances of earlier material such as “Everything Counts” and “Just Can’t Get Enough”.
