Recorded largely in New York and Santa Barbara, Sounds Of The Universe marked a deliberate return to analog synthesizers and vintage gear, giving the 2009 release a warmer, more tactile texture than much of the band's digitally polished output from the previous decade. For a group that had spent 30 years reshaping what electronic music could carry emotionally, it felt like a grounding, a reconnection with the physicality of sound.

Depeche Mode / SOUNDS OF THE UNIVERSE -When it came time to record the Sounds Of The Universe album, Depeche Mode returned to the studio to make their second album with producer Ben Hillier, whose intuitive contributions to the previous album Playing The Angel, had created new sonic possibilities for the band. It includes the singles Wrong, Hole To Feed, Fragile Tension and Peace.
