Product Details

Dexter Gordon spent years living in Copenhagen before this 1963 session, part of a generation of American jazz musicians who found creative freedom and genuine respect on the other side of the Atlantic. That expatriate experience sharpened something in his playing, and the Paris setting brought together a rhythm section that carried the full weight of bebop history. Kevin Gray's all-analog mastering from the original tapes honors what Blue Note engineer Rudy Van Gelder captured in the room.

Dexter Gordon - "Our Man In Paris (Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition)" [180gram Heavy Vinyl LP] Dexter Gordon's 1963 album Our Man In Paris was his first dispatch from Europe and is also symbolically considered to be the last bebop album. The saxophonist assembled a quartet with bebop legends (and fellow expats) Bud Powell on piano, Kenny Clarke on drums, along with the French bassist Pierre Michelot, to record this all-time classic at CBS Studios in Paris. This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is stereo, all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal. Capitol Music Group; Blue Note; Jazz; Catalog.
