Don Cherry – Sunrise (CD)

Recorded at the intersection of free jazz, world music, and something that hadn't been named yet, Don Cherry spent the 1970s building a musical vocabulary that drew from Ornette Coleman's harmonic revolution and stretched it toward Africa, India, and beyond. *Sunrise* captures that restless spirit, with Cherry's pocket trumpet and doussn'gouni weaving through a global ensemble at a moment when the boundaries between jazz and world music were genuinely dissolving.
