Product Details

Doug Sahm was one of American music's great synthesizers, a San Antonio native who absorbed Texas blues, conjunto, country, and rock and roll so completely that the borders between them simply dissolved in his hands. By 1975 he had already made his mark with the Sir Douglas Quintet, recorded in San Francisco during the psychedelic era, and collaborated with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Freddy Fender, and Flaco Jimenez in the Texas Tornados. Caught here in his hometown element, this document is pure Lone Star truth.

This performance, recorded October 14, 1975 came after Doug had temporarily retired the Sir Douglas name, but features original member Meyer along with musical compadres Martin Steitle, John Barber, Steve McDaniels and Harry Hess. All the Sir Douglas Quintet classics are here, including "Mover", "Mendocino" and "Rain", and Doug ventures into other musical territory ranging from T-Bone Walker to Bob Wills. This CD captures all the hits and more and includes songs that were never aired on the original TV broadcast.
