Recorded in 1969, when Blue Note's house sound was hitting its deepest funk pocket, Dr. Lonnie Smith's Hammond B-3 work here became a foundational text for hip-hop producers and crate diggers for decades to come. Smith's organ playing has always sat at the intersection of church, street, and jazz club, and this session captures that alchemy at full burn.

Move Your Hand is Lonnie's most soulful and most sampled Blue Note album. With a quintet fronted by saxophonists Rudy Jones and Ronnie Cuber, Lonnie even makes Donovan's "Sunshine Superman" groove. Added to the CD is the one remaining tune from this session, "Dancin' in An Easy Groove," which made it's first appearance on last year's Lost Grooves collection.
