Patterson Hood, Mike Cooley, and Jason Isbell, three songwriters sharing a stage and trading lead vocals, each brought their own character sketches to *Decoration Day*, released in 2003. It was Isbell's recording debut with the band, and the tension between his raw youth and the older hands' road-worn Southern gothic storytelling gives the album a friction that still crackles.

Drive By Truckers is one of the best rock bands you'll ever experience. Their latest effort DECORATION DAY is 15 songs about the choices people make (good or bad) and their repercussions. The resulting album is an ambitious mix of the full-on "three-guitar" rock that the band so prominently displayed on SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA and the more "coutnryish" elements of their earlier a Featuring guest appearances from Muscle Shoals legend Spooner Oldham on the Wurlizer Electric Piano, singer Clay Levertt and fiddles from Centro-Matic's Scott Dambom.
