The Dropkick Murphys have always understood that Boston punk is less a sound than a covenant, passed down through neighborhoods, dive bars, and decades of showing up for each other. Haywire 617 carries that same working-class chip on their shoulder, and hearing the two bands trade songs makes clear this isn't a mentorship so much as a handoff between equals.

Boston punk veterans Dropkick Murphys link up with rising hardcore band Haywire 617 for an 8-song LP built out of time spent touring together in Europe last fall. Each band contributes three original tracks, plus a cover of the other—Haywire 617 taking on “The Boys Are Back,” and Dropkick Murphys reworking “Always By My Side.” The collaboration carried over to the stage during Dropkick Murphys’ “For the People… In The Pit" St. Patrick’s Day Tour which marked the bands 30th Anniversary run this February and March, where both bands shared the bill. A straightforward split that connects two generations of the same city and same scene.
