Product Details

Stan Getz drifts through these sessions like smoke through a late-night club, his tenor tone so conversational it practically finishes Fitzgerald's sentences. The pairing was almost accidental in its origins, with Verve chief Norman Granz bundling Getz into what was conceived as a straightforward pop vocal date, and the tension between those two impulses is exactly what makes the album breathe.

Digitally remastered and expanded edition of this 1957 album from Jazz vocalist Ella Fitzgerald, recorded with the Frank DeVol Orchestra. Conceived and marketed more as a Pop than as a Jazz record, the original release included little information about personnel and extremely brief liner notes. For this reason, the exact personnel and instrumentation of the orchestra conducted by DeVol on Like Someone in Love remains unknown. Ted Nash is probably the alto saxophonist heard here and there playing behind Ella's vocals, and Stan Getz is definitely the tenor saxophonist heard soloing. Essential Jazz Classics. 2010.
