Ensemble La Sestina – Sigismondo D'india: Quarto Libro De Madrigali A 5 (CD)
Ensemble La Sestina CDs
Product Details
Sigismondo d'India remains one of early music's most unjustly overlooked figures, a composer whose harmonic audacity and gift for text painting rivaled anything being produced in the courts of Mantua or Ferrara. Ensemble La Sestina, led by Nicole Rogenhofer, has built a reputation for bringing precisely this kind of neglected Italian repertoire back to life with period-appropriate warmth and rigor.
Sigismondo d'India's Fourth Book of Madrigals (Venice, 1616) is one of the most accomplished and beautiful collections of madrigals from the late Renaissance. It was with this collection that d'India pitted himself against the most daring and expressive musicians of the period, including Monteverdi and Gesualdo.
