Paris-based Flavien Berger occupies a genuinely strange corner of French electronic music, drawing comparisons to early Daft Punk and Air while remaining stubbornly difficult to place. Contre-Temps, his second full-length, arrived in 2018 and deepened the lysergic, cinematic world he began building on Leviathan, folding synthesizer pop, soul, and kosmische influences into something that feels like a late-night drive through a city that doesn't quite exist yet.
I think I make science-fiction music.I've wanted to create an album about time travel for a long time-ever since I finished Léviathan, actually, back in August 2014. After that, I played concerts, met other musicians, sang for countless new ears, and devoted myself entirely to music. And time changed.This album was composed between October 2016 and May 2018, an urgent year and a half.I imagine my albums as adventure stories. Here, it's a quest in reverse: the journey of a knight in a car, listening to psychedelic R'n'B on the radio. Contre-Temps is a circuit album nourished by the fantastic, where impermanence meets the sensation of passing time-a tunnel through multiple dimensions.Flavien Berger
