Foghat built their reputation the hard way, through relentless touring and a raw, blues-soaked boogie that owed as much to Savoy Brown, where guitarist Dave Peverett and rhythm section members first honed their chops, as it did to the American rock circuit they eventually conquered. "Slow Ride" became an FM radio institution not because it was calculated, but because that seven-minute album cut captured exactly what this band did live: lock into a groove and ride it until the wheels came off.
