Product Details

Frederic Galliano built his reputation through years of cross-cultural collaboration, blending African rhythms with electronic production long before that intersection became fashionable in European club circles. Kuduro itself emerged from Luanda's musseques in the late 1980s and early 1990s, fusing semba, soca, and electronic beats into something uniquely Angolan. Galliano's willingness to document it on its home turf, rather than import it to a studio abroad, gives this project a documentary weight that separates it from the world music packaging of its era.

Recorded in Angola in 2005, this album stands as an outlier in Frédéric Galliano's discography. Produced in the ghettos of Luanda with leading figures of the movement, it reflects a sound as raw and intense as life in Angola's popular neighborhoods. Built on fast, syncopated rhythms, the music unfolds as a continuous flow of political and social speech, intertwined with the joy and energy characteristic of Luanda's kuduristas. This is electronic music rooted in Angola's traditional high-speed rhythms, and it is precisely this striking blend that gives it it's singular identity. Upon release, the album's innovation left many listeners speechless. It nonetheless remains the first Kuduro production made in the country by Frédéric Galliano, an outsider who has long positioned himself as a pioneering musical explorer.
