Memphis in the late '60s and early '70s was a pressure cooker where soul, rock, and country bled into each other, and the Gentrys absorbed all of it. Knox Phillips carried forward his father Sam's instinct for finding something genuine in a recording session, and these vault discoveries suggest there was more to this band than a one-hit story. Jimmy Hart's pre-WWE chapter turns out to be a compelling one.
Known for their 1965 hit ""Keep On Dancing,"" The Gentrys were a Memphis garage rock band that joined Sun Records as it moved to Nashville in 1970. This collection of rare grooves and previously unreleased lost tracks from the Sun vault showcases The Gentrys, led by iconic WWE manager and personality Jimmy Hart, as produced by the visionary Sam Phillips' son, Knox Phillips. It's Been So Long shares a softer side of the band, blending Laurel Canyon style harmonies with their Memphis rock sound.
