Graham Coxon – Crow Sit On Blood Tree (CD)
Product Details
Crow Sit On Blood Tree arrived at a pivotal moment, released during Blur's extended hiatus when Coxon was free to follow his instincts entirely. That creative freedom produced something rawer and more personal than his Britpop reputation suggested, drawing on the British folk-fingerpicking tradition alongside the lo-fi American indie he'd been absorbing, a combination that pointed toward the more guitar-focused direction he'd pursue throughout the decade.
Originally released in 2001, Graham's third solo album, Crow Sit On Blood Tree, found him stretching his wings as a songwriter. While the likes of 'Burn It Down' and 'You Will Never Be' buzzed with the same noisy alt-rock energy he'd brought to bear on iconic Blur tracks such as 'Song 2', on the record's gentler moments, such as 'All Has Gone' and 'Thank God For The Rain', he showed he could also master the delicate acoustic folk of Nick Drake and Bert Jansch. ""There's absolute mayhem on that at times, but there's quiet songs, too,"" Graham says of the record, which was recorded, mixed and mastered in just two weeks. ""I was still exploring different music and what I could do. I'll turn my hand to so many different types of music if it feels natural."" Available again as part of a comprehensive reissue of Coxon's solo catalogue on Transgressive. Follows his first wave of reissues in June, which included the critically acclaimed unreleased studio album Castle Park (reached #6 on the OCC Independent Chart). 5-date UK tour in November including SOLD OUT Kentish Town Forum
