Modesto, California never seemed like fertile ground for the kind of widescreen, melancholic rock Jason Lytle was building in the late '90s and early 2000s, but that tension between small-town isolation and sprawling sonic ambition became Grandaddy's whole identity. Sumday arrived at a moment when the band had refined their blend of weathered Americana and analog electronics into something genuinely affecting, a sound that felt both deeply human and quietly out of time.

Grandaddy's breakthrough third LP Sumday was first released in 2003 and includes the classic hit "Now It's On," alongside fan favorites such as "El Caminos in The West" and "Stray Dog and the Chocolate Shake." Grandaddy formed in 1992 and have released six official LPs, most recently 2024's Blu Wav. Grandaddy members include Jason Lytle, Aaron Burtch, Jim Fairchild, Tim Dryden, and the late Kevin Garcia, who passed away in 2017.
