The Cow Palace run closing out 1976 captured the Dead at a genuinely transitional moment, just months after *Blues for Allah* and deep into the period where Keith and Donna Jean Godchaux had fully settled into the band's chemistry. New Year's Eve shows carried their own ritual weight in the Dead universe, and the San Francisco crowd that night understood they were part of something the band treated as sacred calendar.

With 22 of their finest songs, spread out over five amazing albums, 10 sides, this LP is a rewarding visit back in time with the Grateful Dead, featuring the classic lineup of Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart, Keith Godchaux, and Donna Jean Godchaux.
