Horace Silver – Silver in Seattle: Live at the Penthouse (LP Vinyl)
Product Details
The Penthouse was one of the great rooms of the 1960s jazz circuit, a Seattle club that recorded hundreds of performances for broadcast on KING-FM, and this newly surfaced tape captures Silver's quintet at a remarkable moment. The 1965 edition of his band, with Woody Shaw and Joe Henderson sharing the front line, represented one of the deepest configurations he ever assembled, two future giants still finding their voices under one of hard bop's defining architects.
In August 1965, great jazz pianist, and composer Horace Silver brought a cutting-edge line-up to The Penthouse in Seattle with Woody Shaw on trumpet, Joe Henderson on tenor saxophone, Teddy Smith on bass, and Roger Humphries on drums. A newly discovered recording of those performances gets its first-ever release with Silver In Seattle: Live at the Penthouse featuring the band playing uninhibited renditions of Silver classics including “Song For My Father,” “Cape Verdean Blues,” and “The Kicker.”
