Horace Silver's fingerprints are on virtually every jazz piano player who came after him, from McCoy Tyner to modern soul jazz explorers. His Blue Note recordings of the 1950s and '60s essentially wrote the hard bop rulebook, built around earthy grooves, blues feeling, and melodies direct enough to stick with you long after the needle lifts.
