Product Details

Born Tracy Lauren Marrow in Newark before coming up through the streets of Los Angeles, Ice-T was already a West Coast institution by the time *Freedom of Speech* dropped in 1989. The album's title track fired back directly at Tipper Gore and the PMRC's censorship crusade, making it one of rap's sharpest political statements of the era, arriving the same year the Berlin Wall fell and free expression was very much on the world's mind.

Jersey rapper Ice-T got down and dirty with his third studio album, heralding an era of hardcore, gritty gangster rap that was a new idea in 1989 (when this album released) but would become the genre standard only a few years later. Ahead of the game, Ice-T dazzles with unique bars and unusual production as always on this classic cut.
