Product Details

J.A. Caesar built his reputation as musical director for Shuji Terayama's underground theater troupe Tenjo Sajiki, and the dense, ritualistic energy of that collaboration runs through every groove here. Recorded live in 1973, this document captures a moment when Japanese rock was forging its own psychedelic identity entirely apart from Western influence, with Caesar at the center of that experiment.

J.A. Caesar's "Border Pilgrimage Song," a timeless masterpiece that shines brightly in the history of Japanese psychedelic rock and heavy rock, is finally being reissued on vinyl! The "J.A. Caesar Recital," held over two days on February 3rd and 4th, 1973, at the Nippon Seinenkan Hall, is a condensed collection of his finest performances. It's rich content and the unique worldview expressed in the jacket illustration mean that it's value remains undiminished even more than 50 years after it's release. It is truly a compilation of Caesar's early work and a pinnacle of the early days of Japanese rock.
