Ian Anderson conceived *Thick As A Brick* as a direct response to critics who had labeled *Aqualung* a concept album, a distinction he rejected. The result was something far more audacious: a single continuous piece of music spread across two sides of vinyl, presented inside a elaborate parody of a small-town British newspaper. It remains one of progressive rock's most committed and carefully constructed long-form statements.
