Recorded in 1957, this session captures Coltrane at a pivotal moment, deep in his tenure with Miles Davis and beginning to assert his own voice as a leader. Red Garland's elegant, block-chord comping and Paul Chambers' authoritative bass provided a foundation Coltrane clearly trusted, and the chemistry shows in the looseness and confidence of his playing throughout.

Original Jazz Classics celebrates John Coltrane’s centennial with this release of John Coltrane with the Red Garland Trio. Released in 1958 on Prestige, and later rereleased in 1961 as Traneing In, the album features the quartet of Coltrane along with Red Garland, Paul Chambers, and Art Taylor. This new edition of the album is released on 180-gram vinyl pressed at RTI with all-analog mastering from the original tapes at Cohearent Audio and a Stoughton Tip-On Jacket.
