Product Details

Jonathan Blake grew up steeped in jazz royalty, the son of drummer Art Blake and the godson of drummer Albert "Tootie" Heath, making his relationship to the drum kit something genuinely inherited rather than merely learned. Pentad reads less like a working band and more like a summit of the current generation's finest voices, and the Tone Poet treatment here gives Blake's intricate brush work and compositional depth the sonic space it deserves.

Imbued with warmth and swing, Johnathan Blake's 2021 Blue Note debut, Homeward Bound, was a celebration of life and legacy that introduced the drummer-composer's masterful modern jazz quintet, Pentad, featuring alto saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins, vibraphonist Joel Ross, keyboardist David Virelles, and bassist Dezron Douglas. This stereo Blue Note Tone Poet Vinyl Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.
