Karate occupied a genuinely singular space in the late-'90s and early-2000s underground, blending jazz-informed guitar minimalism with post-hardcore intensity in ways that influenced a generation of musicians without ever quite getting their due. *Unsolved*, their 2000 release on Southern Records, captures the Boston trio at a particularly searching moment, Geoff Farina's spare, pointed guitar work and Jeff Goddard's fluid bass lines threading through arrangements that reward close, patient listening.
