Casamance, the southernmost region of Senegal, has long been a wellspring of West African musical tradition largely separate from the dominant Wolof culture of Dakar, and Kéba Kébé gave that regional identity a voice that reached far beyond its borders. This debut stands as both a cultural document and a deeply personal statement, arriving from an artist whose life was cut short before he could build on its promise.

In this debut album by Kéba Kébé, the entire culture of Casamance is brought to the forefront. From it's characteristic melodies to the foundational rhythms of Diola culture, the record combines earthy power with harmonious lines. With the addition of female choirs and string instruments, it remains accessible to a wide range of listeners. The warm sound of the recording gives the production a gentle yet masculine softness, shaping an album whose author sadly passed away in his forties.
