Product Details

Kenny Dorham spent much of the 1950s in the shadow of more celebrated trumpeters, yet his lyrical command and harmonic sophistication earned him deep respect among fellow musicians. The Cafe Bohemia was a Greenwich Village hub where Blue Note captured some of its most vital live recordings, and Dorham's stand there caught him leading a genuinely exceptional band at full creative stretch. The "Complete" designation here means previously unissued material from those sessions is finally in circulation.

Kenny Dorham's sublime 1956 live album, The Complete 'Round About Midnight At The Cafe Bohemia, features the trumpeter with J.R. Monterose, Kenny Burrell, Bobby Timmons, Sam Jones & Arthur Edgehill. This Blue Note Tone Poet Edition 2-CD set was produced by Joe Harley and remastered by Kevin Gray from the original tapes. Includes a booklet with never-before-seen photos by Francis Wolff and an essay by Syd Schwartz.
